Can the beacons be used with a website, or does it only work with mobile applications
At this time, there’s no web API or technology that’d allow websites to scan for beacons—this is assuming that the website is being viewed on a Bluetooth-capable device such as a modern smartphone. So currently, you need an app for that.
If you’re only familiar with web technologies, you should take a look at PhoneGap, which is a way to build mobile applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. There’s a PhoneGap plugin for Estimote Beacons and Stickers maintained by Evothings, so you’d be all set for building a beacon-powered app!
