Which beacons for prototyping, and can you mix them?

Hi all. I’m about to start a new beacon based prototype and it’s been a while since I last played with beacons. There are now various types, some with temp and NFC and some with longer range. Other than the larger battery and power, or the NFC and motion sensors, are there any differences in how you name and communicate with them? Also if I were to buy a set of each can you use them together, mix and match?

Hi @surjan, first, you have to think about the fact that you will need an app’ to accomplish your tasks. Why? Because beacons only broadcast information, they don’t receive, store and analyze any data. So if you want to capture the spent time, you will need an app’. You have now to choose the technology you will use: iBeacon, Eddystone-UID or Eddystone-URL. So, given I need to trigger events based upon location, in a large building or in a town, the location beacons are what I should go with. I’ll stick to iBeacon protocol.
