Adjusting beacon range and power consumption


I’m doing a research project about adjusting beacon range.
I know that I can change the range with your SDK.

The thing I worry is the battery.
I think that a beacon needs to keep scanning a signal that change the range and this procedure results in constant energy consumption.
I’m not sure how much amount of energy will be drained.
It would not be critical for battery’s lifetime, but I just wonder it.

Generally speaking, the higher the beacon’s transmit power, the greater the range, but also the greater the battery consumption. This start being particularly noticeable at values >= 0 dBm.

When you change transmit power in the Estimote app, it gives you an estimation of the battery life for the current settings.
