What do I need in order to build an app that interacts with beacons?

Hi There,

I’d like to build an app to interact and manage Becons. There is a lot of information about it but I’d like to know things like do I need a gateway, what other infrastructure is needed in order to build an app and a portal that interacts with the beacons.

Any info appreciated.
