I am curious about the power consumption of iPhone if Beacon monitoring is conducted in background. In my case the iPhone will be in a environment where beacons are all around. I am worried that the background monitoring will drain the iPhone very fast so that my client will hate my APP.

We’ve done a lot of testing in that area, and I’m personally using a few iOS apps that constantly monitor beacons, and can confirm the extra battery drain is completely negligible. That’s because in most cases, iBeacon monitoring is completely offloaded to the Bluetooth chip, and doesn’t use the phone’s CPU.
